Troy teen killed in single-vehicle crash
TROY — A 17-year-old driver was killed in a single-vehicle crash Sunday morning, Oct. 31, according to a press release from Waldo County Sheriff Chief Deputy Jason Trundy.
According to Trundy’s report, Hazel Fuller, a senior at Mount View High School, was deceased upon WSO deputies’ arrival on the scene.
The accident was reported to Waldo County Dispatch at 11:20 a.m.
Fuller was traveling north on Detroit Road when the accident occurred. Evidence at the scene showed that the vehicle, a 2004 GMC Envoy, left the roadway to the right. Fuller reportedly overcorrected the vehicle, causing her to lose control.
The vehicle crossed the roadway to the left, where it struck an embankment, leading the Envoy to roll over several times, according to the release.
Fuller was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, which led to her being ejected from the vehicle while it was rolling.
Driver inexperience and inattention are listed as contributing factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
In addition to the WSO, Troy Fire Department and Unity EMS assisted at the scene.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family with funeral costs and other expenses.
