On town ballots in Knox County: Prohibiting marijuana retail, Styrofoam in floats, zoning amendments

Mon, 11/06/2017 - 5:30pm

Just four Knox County municipalities will be deciding local issues on Nov. 7 when voters go to the polls, but everyone will be faced with four ballot items for the state of Maine. Camden, Rockport and St. George have individual measures for their citizens to consider, and in Rockland, voters will be considering three candidates for two open Rockland City Council seats. Below are the municipalities, links to their websites, and their voting information.

     Camden

CAMDEN — Voters in Camden have a series of ordinance amendments, or brand-new ordinances.

    Town Meeting Warrant

Article 2 Backup (Town) - new proposed Blasting Ordinance. This ordinance amendment requires those who get blasting permits to notify abutters.

Article 3 Backup (Town) - Camden Zoning Ordinance, Site Plan Review Section XII, Section 2 Procedures. This ordinance amendment adds to the site plan review process the ability of the town to require additional engineering review consulting services, if necessary, at the cost of the developer.

Article 4 Backup (Town) - Camden Zoning Ordinance, Site Plan Review, Section XII, Section 4 Supplemental Information.
This ordinance amendment adds to the site plan review requirements that engineers show evidence of technical capacity.

Article 5 Backup (Town) - new proposed Unencapsulated Polystyrene Ordinance. This new ordinance eliminates use of unencapsulated polystyrene in dock floats and buoys on Camden lakes, rivers, harbors and coastal waters.

Article 6 Backup (Town) - Discontinuance of portion of Old Rte 52. The proposed discontinuance of an unused section of Route 52 is the result of a petition for discontinuance from Tobias Wincklhofer and Isabella Wincklhofer and Stephen and Cheryl Beveridge, relating to their properties, which are currently burdened with a right of way that no longer serves as a public access for any property other than those of the Wincklhofers and Beveridges.
