Tom Crowley will read from his recent collection, The Maine Thing: Trout Slippers, during his poetry book launch and reception, Oct. 8, at 6:30 p.m., at Lincolnville Community Library. An open mic session for poets will also be available.

Tom Crowley is a writer living on the coast of Maine where he draws inspiration from local waters, neighbors, fisherfolk, and the daily action on the coastal beaches in front of his home. He has been writing since his early years in the United States Navy and continued to write short stories and poetry while living in Louisiana, Florida, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and Maine. 

According to a Library news release, Crowley's published poetry and short stories reveal themes of historic preservation, the challenges of surviving an alcoholic parentage, and personal experiences as a child, a teenager, a convicted teenage felon, a hitchhiker, sailor, Captain, husband, father, and grandfather. 

His first fictionalized non-fiction novel, Provenance, is the story about paintings smuggled into Cuba from Europe and then to the United States by his grandfather who served under Fulgencio Batiste in Cuba and later as the Cuban Consul General to the United States. His first children’s book, Gulls and Crows, and first collection of Maine-based poetry, Trout Slippers have been published by Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing and all are available as Kindle books or paperbacks.
