THOMASTON — Over the past two weeks the Thomaston Grammar School participated in a food drive to collect food items and personal care items for the Thomaston Food Pantry. Each grade pod collected items throughout the week and collected data regarding the items collected.

The School held an assembly to reveal the total amount collected. Each group of students (Kindergarten and first grade, second and third grade, and fourth and fifth grade) presented their data to the school. They collected a record number of items – 2,199.

The second and third grade pod collected the most items and will be participating in a special event for their efforts. Fifth graders helped to load the items into trucks. Two trucks full of items were driven to the Food Pantry and staff and parents from TGS helped to unload the items.

“The people working at the Food Pantry were happy to receive the donations,” said TGS, in a news release. “It was a wonderful effort by students and their families and staff members to help the members of their greater community.”
