ROCKLAND — The Strand Theatre was recently awarded a $7,500 grant from the Maine Arts Commission to support its general operating expenses for the coming fiscal year.

The Maine Arts Commission is an independent state agency supported by the National Endowment for the Arts.

“As an organization designed specifically to bring people together for shared experiences, COVID has proven particularly challenging for the Strand,” said Executive Director Jessie Davis, in a news release. “Support from MAC buoys us, just that much more, while we wait for the community to find its way back through the doors to enjoy the incredible variety of programming the Strand is currently providing seven days a week!”

The Strand Theatre, which has been designated a National Historic Landmark by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, became a nonprofit in January 2014 and is now operated by Friends of the Strand Theatre. The Strand presents films, concerts, simulcasts, and educational programs. It is located at 345 Main Street, Rockland.
