ST. GEORGE — With the announcement earlier this month of a $3.85M Federal grant from the Economic Development Administration, the Town is able to proceed with the construction of the 10 Cold Storage Road (10CSR) project.

St. George purchased the property at 10 Cold Storage Road in 2015 with the intention to enhance waterfront public access and develop recreational and working waterfronts for future generations.

This aerial photograph from 2015 shows the existing Town Landing and the adjacent 10 Cold Storage Road property.

Federal and State permits have been secured to combine the two sites and fill in the areas between, as illustrated in this conceptual plan of the project; the project will almost double the usable space available for access and vehicular circulation and also reconstruct the boat ramp at 10 CSR, lengthening it, reorienting the approach to the ramp, and lessening the grade.

In 2018 the Town approved a $2.6M 20 year bond to pay for the project construction; unfortunately rising costs, particularly for the steel, meant this sum was insufficient to start. Now with the Federal grant, the 10CSR project can proceed. Construction is expected to be completed by 2024.

The 10CSR project was first championed by a special Town Advisory Committee in 2014-15 and subsequently by the Harbor Committee, who continue to guide and advise; our past and present Town Managers have shepherded the project though several administrative hurdles; all deserve our thanks for getting us to this stage in an exciting and transforming project for the Town.
