Spruce Head Co-op wharf manager arrested for theft
ROCKLAND — A months-long investigation into the business dealings of the wharf manager at Spruce Head Co-op resulted in the man's arrest Wednesday, Oct. 3.
Robert Thompson, 51, of St. George, was charged with class B theft. Thompson is accused of stealing cash and items valued at more than $10,000, according to authorities. The exact value has yet to be tallied, they said.
On Oct. 3 and 4, Knox County Sheriff's deputies executed four search warrants, including at Thompson's St. George residence, at his camp in Rockwood, at JP's Shellfish in Eliot and at a local bank, according to a press release.
According to Knox Chief Deputy Tim Carroll in the release, the ongoing investigation has been led by the Criminal Investigation Division of the KCSO and assisted by the Maine Marine Patrol, U.S. Coast Guard, National Marine Fisheries Service and the Internal Revenue Service.
All give agencies assisted in the execution of the search warrants, Carroll said.
Much of the evidence seized was in document form, and it came from all four locations, according to the release.
"It will take many days to sort thru all the evidence," said Carroll in the release. "The investigation will continue and may reveal additional charges. It is unknown at this time if others will be charged."
Thompson was released from Knox County Jail Wednesday afternoon after providing a $100,000 real estate, or surety bond. His first court appearance has been scheduled for Dec. 26 in Knox County Superior Court.
