ROCKLAND — The faculty and staff of South School in Rockland have established a way for students to have access to needed hygiene items.

“Here at South School, our teachers and staff strive to create a safe learning environment for our students in which to grow,” a Facebook post announcing the initiative read. “Our staff believes in helping students beyond their academic growth and continually looks for ways to assist our children - they are committed to meeting any need a student may have.”

Thanks to donations from the staff and community, the school has established a “comfort closet” for student hygiene items including socks, toilet paper, deodorant, shampoo, toothpaste and tooth brushes.

Students will be able to take items from the closet as needed.

The goal is to keep the closet fully stocked at all times for its more than 300 students. As such, the school is soliciting donations.

Those interested in donating can place a donation in the “comfort closet” donation box in the school’s lobby.
