Shirley Roch, obituary
STONINGTON — Shirley F. Roch, 94, formerly of Owls Head, died Dec. 19, 2013, at Penobscot Nursing Home in Penobscot.
Born in Mars Hill, she was the daughter of James F. and Leona B. Shaw Wilson. Educated in local schools, she was a 1937 graduate of Aroostook Central Institute.
After moving to Thomaston, Shirley met, courted and fell in love with Gerald L. Roch. The couple were married in Thomaston Dec. 23, 1942. They resided there until 1945, when they moved to Framingham, Mass.
Shirley attended Child Nurses School at Wellesley Children's Convalescent Center.
For more than 15 years, she worked as a corrections officer with the State of Massachusetts at the Framingham Correctional Institution.
After retiring, Shirley returned to Midcoast Maine, residing at Crescent Beach in Owls Head and later until 1999, at Ingraham’s Hill. Since that time she resided in Stonington.
While living in Owls Head, Shirley was an active member of the Owls Head Baptist Church. She later moved her membership to Oceanville Baptist Church in Stonington, where she served as organist.
Shirley enjoyed knitting, crocheting and ceramics, but more than anything, being with friends and family.
Other than her parents, Shirley was predeceased by her husband in 1987. She is survived by two daughters, Judith Brewer and her husband, Joseph, of Stonington, and Susan Rockwood of Brunswick, Ga.; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild.
A celebration of Shirley's life will be announced in the spring.
