SEARSPORT — Rumors that several Searsport ambulance personnel tested positive for the virus that causes COVID-19 are inaccurate, according to a statement by Town Manager James Gillway in the town’s newsletter.

“The Town of Searsport is not aware of any employee infected by COVID-19,” Gillway wrote.

The rumors have the potential to negatively impact other members of the community who may believe the unfounded rumors.

“We are worried that this misinformation will scare people into not calling for help when they need it,” Gillway continued. “Please if you need an ambulance, call us. We always take every precaution to protect our patients and our staff.”

Gillway and the town staff continues to encourage Waldo County residents to wear masks in public, practice social distancing, use hand sanitizer often and try to avoid unnecessary large gatherings.
