Tue, 11/22/2022 - 4:00pm

Sally Ann (Pope) Halliday passed away peacefully at home on November 20, 2022.

Sally was born on August 17, 1942 in Gardiner, Maine, the only daughter of Harold Thoits and Marjora Viola (Christensen) Pope.

Sally attended Gardiner High School where she excelled in her studies, was active in several of the school’s bands as a very skilled trumpet player, and continued her accomplishments as a tap and ballet dancer as she had since the age of three years old. In her teens, she would hand-sew her own outfits from fabric she and her mother sought out during day trips to different cities in Maine and Massachusetts.

She attended the University of Maine at Orono studying Mathematics and belonged to Phi Mu Sorority, but remained a lifelong learner and forever a seeker of knowledge.

After moving with her family to Belfast in the 70s, Sally worked for Moser & Mailloux for many years before transitioning to the Belfast District Court, subsequently furthering her education to become a much valued Systems Programming Analyst for the State of Maine.

She was an avid knitter with her knitting group through Heavenly Yarns in Belfast and Ravelry online. She made continual gifts to her family and friends of sweaters, hats, socks and anything you could imagine!

She enjoyed Cousins Luncheon every year in Brunswick with her cousins Nancy Fadis, Kathy and Donna Brann, Jim Christensen, Judy Labbe and Jean Lallier, [with occasional visitors ] Georgia Brooks and Lisa Utecht.

She is predeceased by her parents; her husband of 49 years, Harold “Hal” Everett Halliday; and daughter Darci Ann.

She is survived by daughter Shari Lynn Seger (Charles) of Brooks; son, Harold Scott Halliday of Gallup, New Mexico; daughters Heather Ann Halliday of Bath and Jill Anne Halliday of Belfast; sister in law Harriet “Pat” Daniels of Skowhegan; grandchildren Raven Maya, Nellie Scott and Avery Gatewood LaValle of New York, Logan Scott Parker (Katie) of Ephriata, Pennsylvania, Lindsay Ann Workman, Ezra Smith Halliday of Nottingham, Pennsylvania, Nathan Isaac Hamm of Morrill, Derrek Thomas and Allison Jane Hamm of Northport; and several great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2022, from 2 to 4 p.m., at Riposta Funeral Home 182 Waldo Ave. Belfast, ME.
