RSU 3 eyes making masks optional beginning March 7

Sun, 02/27/2022 - 2:00pm

The following letter was distributed over the weekend by Regional School Unit 3 superintendent Charles Brown.

    Dear RSU #3 Community,

I hope this letter finds you and your family doing well. The changes in weather this past week have many of us ready for spring time. I know many of you have begun or are anticipating the annual Maple Syrup production that comes with warmer weather.

The purpose of this letter is to provide you with an update on the masking requirement in RSU #3. In consultation with area superintendents, the RSU #3 School Health Office, and guidance provided by the Maine DOE and CDC, RSU #3 will move to optional masking on Monday, March 7.

The reason for this is to allow a week of returning to school from break to analyze pooled testing data and community case counts. As long as Waldo County’s case count and RSU #3’s pooled testing count remains “medium” to “low”, we will move forward with optional masking on March 7.

Please note, masks are still required, per federal guidelines on all RSU #3 school transportation.

At this time, to help us best mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and to monitor the case count, we are encouraging parents to have their child(ren) participate in pooled testing. More information and to sign up can be found at the RSU 3 Pooled Testing Website. If you have any questions, please contact the RSU #3 School Health Office, 207-568-4606.

I want to thank all members of the RSU #3 Community for your continued support of our students, staff, and schools as we have worked together over the past two years to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please feel free to contact your child’s school principal.

    Sincerely,
    Mr. Charles D. Brown, Superintendent
