On July 31, 2021 at approximately 3:20 p.m,, the Waldo County Regional Communications Center received a report of a two-vehicle crash on Route 3 in Palermo. Upon arrival, Waldo County Sheriff’s Deputies learned the following:

A 2016 Harley Davidson motorcycle (Tricycle configuration), was traveling west on Route 3 in Palermo. The left rear tire failed, causing the trike to pull left, across the passing lane and then across the centerline and into the path of a 2018 Nissan Rogue, which was traveling east.

That car’s driver, Morgen Galloway, 27 of Northport, took evasive action to avoid the Harley Davidson but was unable to, according to a news release from the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office, Aug. 2.

The Harley Davidson, under operation by Michael Weymouth, 70 of Winterport, continued on after contact with the Nissan, striking a guardrail and eventually rolled over, coming to final rest on its side, the S.O. said.

The collision caused the passenger of the Harley Davidson,  Jean Weymouth, 73 of Manchester, to be ejected from the trike. She was flown via LifeFlight of Maine to Northern Light-EMMC in Bangor for the treatment of serious injuries.

The drivers of the two vehicles, as well as a passenger in the Nissan were evaluated on scene and were not transported. The apparent cause of the crash is mechanical failure (tire) of Harley Davidson, said the S.O.

Those riding the Harley Davidson were not wearing helmets, said the S.O.

Deputy James Porter is the primary investigator of the crash. The Maine State Police are reconstructing the accident. Palermo and Liberty Fire assisted on scene. Northeast and Delta Ambulance both responded for treatment of those parties involved.

    The crash remains under investigation.
