Rockport man charged with burglary at animal hospital
ROCKPORT – A Rockport man remains in jail after he was charged by police with breaking into a veterinarian office and stealing drugs.
Samuel Trautman, 26, was charged with burglary, stealing drugs, and criminal mischief following a Dec. 14 break-in at All Creatures Veterinary Hospital in Rockport.
Trautman made his initial appearance in Knox County Court on Dec. 15. Judge Sarah Gilbert set bail at $2,500 cash. Bail was initially set at $20,000 cash by the bail commissioner at the Knox County Jail.
According to the affidavit filed in court by police, an officer responded to an alarm going off at the veterinarian office at approximately 3:24 a.m. on Dec. 14. While the officer was in transist to the scene, he observed a man riding a bicycle.
The deputy found a large window broken out at the business and then alerted other officers to be on the lookout for the man on the bicycle.
Police located Trautman on Rockland Street near Meadow Street in Rockport.
Trautman admitted to breaking into the veterinarian office with a hammer which was found in his possession along with the stolen drugs. He said that he has previously been employed at the veterinary practice but was fired on Halloween.
Judge Gilbert said during the hearing on Dec. 15 that Trautman could be release from jail if he finds a bed at a substance abuse rehabilitation facility. He will be on supervised release after he is released from jail.
Trautman is scheduled to appear in court again on Feb. 26, 2026.
