Robert E. Gregory, obituary
THOMASTON — Robert E. Gregory, 84, died June 2, 2013, surrounded by his family, at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport.
Born in Rockland June 9, 1928, he was the son of Stanley D. and Doris B. Grover Gregory. At the age of 11, Robert moved to York Village, where he attended local schools and was a 1947 graduate of York High School. Soon after, he entered the United States Army Air Force, serving from 1947 to 1950, and from 1950 to 1953 with the United States Air Force Reserves.
Upon his honorable discharge from active military service he returned to Rockland, where on April 22, 1951, he married Mary M. Sock. Except for a brief period in Providence, R.I., the Gregory's lived in Rockland's South End all their married lives. Mrs. Gregory died Feb. 22, 1986.
For most of his career, Robert worked at FMC Marine Colloids in Rockland.
An avid camper, Robert particularly enjoyed traveling and camping with his wife to Canada, with Nova Scotia being their favorite destination. For several years he served as a volunteer at the Owls Head Transportation Museum and was an HO gauge model train enthusiast.
He loved his dog, Max and his cat, Star.
Other than his wife and parents, Robert was predeceased by one sister, Shirley Brooke; and a son-in-law, Bill Meuse. He is survived by three sons, James Gregory and his wife, Jackalene, of Mechanicsville, Va., Wayne Gregory and his companion, Paula, of Belfast, and John Gregory and his wife, Wendy, of Chester, Va.; one daughter, Cheryl A. Spaulding of Thomaston; a brother, Paul A. Gregory of Dover, N.H.; three sisters, Eleanor Rowell and her husband, Duane, of Hope, Janice Miller of Kittery and Karen Gregory of York Village; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A private service will be held at Maine Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Augusta.
