Upcycling Furniture
Have a piece of furniture that needs updating? Wondering whether to strip off the old finish, paint, or a bit of both? This class will cover all those options. Take your small, freshly scrubbed piece of furniture and some elbow grease. There will be time to discuss supplies depending on what you want to accomplish. Class meets five Mondays starting January 6, 6 to 8 p.m. Course fee $95.
Intro to Piano
Do you want to learn to play the piano? Did you quit lessons when you were a child and regret it? This Adult Beginner class is just the thing. Learn basic note reading, technique, theory, and chords. Some of the work will be done as a group, some with individual instruction during class time. Students will need access to a piano/keyboard at home for practice during the week. Class meets six Thursdays starting January 9, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Course fee $119. An additional $30 fee is to be paid to the instructor for a book which includes piano songs, piano exercises, and music theory contained in one comprehensive textbook.
Sewing with Knit Fabrics
Learn the basic properties of knit fabric while constructing a T-shirt. Take a well fitting, crewneck T-shirt to copy plus two yards of prewashed, machine dried, solid cotton knit fabric (no stripes) along with matching thread to begin cutting out your garment the first night of class. Take scissors, pins, ball point and universal sewing machine needles sizes 70-80-90. Also, take a fabric-marking pen, measuring tape, a seam ripper, and a contrasting spool of thread. Class meets five Tuesdays starting January 14, 6 to 8 p.m. Course fee $89 ($66.75 for students 65 and older).
Mushrooms, Edible and Medicinal of New England
Whether a cook, forager, herbalist, or restauranteur, you will enjoy this one-night class which features easy-to-understand information on finding, collecting, identifying, and preparing the safe, most common edible and medicinal mushroom species of New England and Eastern Canada. The book Edible and Medicinal Mushrooms of New England and Eastern Canada will be available for purchase in class for $21. Class meets one night, Tuesday, January 14, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Course fee $29.
Baking with Nut Flours
This class will explore various nut flours as an alternative to traditional wheat flour. Bake a batch of muffins using almond, pecan, and hazelnut flours. Class meets one night, Wednesday, January 22, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Course fee $40.
Oil Painting Open Studio
Everyone welcome. Join in person for an open studio oil painting experience. Take an unfinished or blank canvas, oil paint, and easel to enjoy two relaxing hours with fellow artists and budding artists. Let's keep painting! Four Tuesday nights, 6 to 8 p.m., starting January 21. Register for each week separately (1/21, 1/28, 2/11, 2/25). Each class $15.
Felted Patch: Loon
Use wool felt and embroidery thread to make a fun three-inch patch of a loon swimming on a pond. Some basic embroidery experience is recommended. We will use running stitch and French knots. Materials fee included in registration. Class meets one night, Wednesday, January 29 from 5 to 9 p.m. Course fee $29.
Tai Chi for Beginners, 10 Movements
A practice to cultivate, store, and circulate internal energy. Movements are non-impact, smooth, and practiced slowly. Improve heart, bone, and muscle strength, overall balance, and reduce the effects of stress. Six-week course starts Wednesday, January 15, 10:30 a.m. to noon. Course fee $59 ($44.25 for students 65 and older).
