ROCKPORT — Pen Bay Medical Center has been fully recertified in Pulmonary Rehabilitation Services by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR).

Pen Bay Medical Center was recognized for its commitment to providing and improving the quality of life by enhancing high quality standards of care. These services are coordinated by respiratory therapist, Janey Barthelette, BA, RRT, CPFT, and are provided under the medical leadership and guidance of pulmonologist, Andrew Filderman, MD.

Pulmonary rehabilitation services are designed to help people with respiratory problems (e.g., chronic obstructive pulmonary disease [COPD], and other chronic lung conditions,) prevent infections and worsening of their lung conditions; build endurance and strength and improve overall quality of life.

Pulmonary rehabilitation services are multi-disciplinary and take a progressive training approach in building endurance and strength.

Training sessions include lung health and wellness education, techniques for control and management of shortness of breath and staff support for patients and their families.

Pen Bay Medical Center's Pulmonary Rehabilitation Services participated in a complex application process that required extensive documentation of all rehab programs' practices.

AACVPR-certified programs are recognized as leaders in the field of cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation because they offer the most advanced quality practices available.

AACVPR Program Certification is valid for three years. For more information on pulmonary rehabilitation call 596-8880.
