ROCKLAND — Paul F. Alden, 69, died June 6, 2013, at Maine Medical Center in Portland, from complications following heart surgery.

Born in Rockland Feb. 23, 1944, he was the son of Earl J. and Lillian H. Fifield Alden. Growing up in Rockland, he was educated in local schools and was a 1962 graduate of Rockland High School. He later earned an associate's degree from Husson College in Bangor.

Early in his working life he managed the S & H Green Stamp Store in Rockland until it closed. He later worked with Coppola & Coppola Eye Care, By George Jewelry and more recently for several years with The Store, all in Rockland.

Over the years, Paul enjoyed various trips to California to visit family. Paul was an avid reader and enjoyed weekly games of Rummikub with his sister-in-law, Sylvia Alden.

He was a past member of the Rockland Lions Club and a faithful communicant of St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Rockland.

Other than his parents, Paul was pre-deceased by two brothers, John and Sterling. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Sylvia Alden of Owls Head; a nephew, David Alden and his wife, Marcie, of Burbank, Calif.; a niece, Cristina Alden of Leominster, Mass.; other nieces and nephews, as well as several cousins.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 13, at 10 a.m. at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, 150 Broadway in Rockland. The Rev. Frank Semancik will officiate. Interment will follow at Achorn Cemetery.
