'Paris in Camden' organ concert at St. Thomas Church, Sept. 28
CAMDEN — Dr. James Higdon, the Dane and Polly Bales Professor of Organ at the University of Kansas, will present “Paris in Camden”, an organ concert, Sunday afternoon, Sept. 28, at 4 p.m., at St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church.
Dr. Higdon will offer a preview of a program that he will perform at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France next month featuring works by Sowerby, Alain, Messiaen, Fauré, Barber, and Dupré.
Recent European concert tours by Higdon include recitals at Notre Dame Cathedral, La Madeleine and Saint-Étienne-du-Mont in Paris, St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna, Chartres Cathedral and concerts and master classes in Germany, Prague and Poland and Russia. Significant American recitals include appearances at four previous national and regional conventions of The American Guild of Organists and The Tabernacle in Salt Lake City.
"St. Thomas’ pipe organ, with 37 ranks in 3 divisions, was built in 1992 and is believed to be the only instrument built in the state of Maine by the Schantz Organ Company of Orrville, Ohio," said the church.
The concert is a fund raiser for St. Thomas’ Music Programwith a suggested donation of $20, though any offering is appreciated.
The church is located at 33 Chestnut Street, Camden, with free parking available in the church lot on Wood Street. Handicapped parking is available at the Wood Street entrance.
The public is invited; concert begins at 4 p.m., Sunday, September 28.
