Paddling the Passy: Inaugural Spring kayak passage of Belfast Marine Institute

Several Belfast students and BMI staff recently took part in the inaugural voyage of the Belfast Marine Institute’s fleet of kayaks. The BMI announced it would be hosting a weekly Monday evening kayak around the harbor, up the Passy or out into the bay as part of their Floating Classroom initiative to get students out, on, in and under the waters of Penobscot Bay.
There was a lot of interest from students wanting to participate.
Four tandems and four solo kayaks were trailered down to the Town Dock, students were transported down by van and after a short introduction and safety talk, the fleet was successfully launched.
The group worked their way past Front Street shipyard and under the bridges before paddling their way up the Passy. As the evening went on, they explored both shores before making their way back by sunset. And there was much rejoicing. Go here for more information about the Belfast Marine Institute.
