Ouda Baxter joins Islesboro Central School

    ISLESBORO — Islesboro Central School (ICS) has announced a new member to the ICS family. Ouda Baxter has been hired as the K-12 art teacher.

    Baxter is a multimedia sculptor and installation artist, who enjoys tactile process art, natural fiber spinning, botanical dyeing, printmaking and photography.

    She is a world traveler with family roots in Midcoast and Southern Maine, and is inspired by natural phenomena, botany, animals, stories, myths, memories, ephemera, and literature, according to ICS, in a news release.

    Baxter earned her undergraduate degree in visual arts, from Bowdoin.

    She then went on to earn her Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) from Maine College of Art. Most recently, Baxter has been teaching in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China.

    “She is excited to be joining ICS and to begin the adventure of island life, and to create a fun and engaging learning environment in the Art Room this year,” said the school, in a news release.
