Oceanside falls to Lincoln Academy in court action














ROCKLAND – Wednesday the Oceanside (8-3) girls tennis team hosted Lincoln Academy (10-0) in a make up match postponed from Tuesday, May 19.
The undefeated Eagles of Lincoln Academy managed to stay that way with a 3-2 win over their hosts. Oceanside won both the doubles matches, but lost all three of the singles matches.
Here are the individual results with Oceanside players listed first, in singles, Lily Butler lost to Leslie Sandefur (LA) 0-6, 0-6; Becca Boggs lost to Cristina Garcia (LA) 1-6, 3-6; and Emily Gould lost to Nettie Hoagland 4-6, 6-3, 4-6.
With the team score tied at 2-2, the deciding match came down to senior rookie Emily Gould who nearly pulled off a three set victory in her second time playing singles to give the Eagles the closest match they have had all season.
In doubles, Mary Allen and Clara Feltus beat Kate Westhaver and Hannah Heino, 6-2, 7-5; and Emily Prothero and Hannah Grace beat Polina Scimone and Shiann Keene 6-2, 6-0.
“Our doubles teams were solid and our singles girls competitive,” said Oceanside coach Joanna Hall. “So we are very happy to be playing strong tennis heading into the playoffs.”

Our seniors played very well today in their Senior Day matches,” said Hall. “With Emily Prothero and Hannah Grace winning at second doubles and Kingsley Holmes and Rachel Johnson at exhibition.”

Oceanside is currently in second place in the Eastern Class B Heal Point standings. They have one game left Friday, May 22 when they travel to Morse.
