BLUE HILL — On Thursday, May 26, Northern Light Health and Blue Hill Hospital leaders gathered with staff, donors, and community members to celebrate the start of construction on the region’s new hospital.

“Today we reflect on Northern Light Blue Hill Hospital’s one hundred years of service to the Peninsula and beyond while celebrating the promise of care close to home for the next century,” says John Ronan, FACHE, president, Blue Hill Hospital and senior vice president, Northern Light Health, in a news release. “At a time when rural hospitals are closing across the country, the Keeping Our Promise campaign is securing the future for Blue Hill Hospital. We are grateful for the community’s generous support of this project.”

The patient and family-focused new hospital will be a comfortable environment for healing with lots of privacy for patients and views of the water from every inpatient room, according to the release. The facility will include all private patient rooms with the latest in technology and patient comfort, a full-service emergency department, and imaging services.

Sitework is now underway at the Blue Hill campus and the new hospital is expected to open in the summer of 2023. In addition to the new hospital, the Sussman Health Center will also be upgraded. New renovated space for lab, rehabilitation, and specialty services will be located on the first floor of the Sussman Health Center. WBRC, Inc. is the project architect and JF Scott is the general contractor.
