ROCKLAND — Norma "Nana" Ames, 90, went to be with her Lord June 22, 2013, at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport.

Born in Rockland Nov. 26, 1922, she was the daughter of Norman P. and Ursula Reynolds Richards. She was educated in Rockland schools.

Except for a brief period when they were first married, Norma and her husband, Dennis E. Ames, lived on Washington Street all their married lives.

Nana worked many years at F. J. O'Hara & Son Seafood in Rockland.

Foremost in Nana's life was her love for God and her family. A dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, she devoted herself to the care and support of her children, grandchildren and extended family. She was a faithful prayer warrior for her family.

Nana's favorite flower was the dandelion, as she always said it was the children's flower. She often recited the verse, "What is life, that is full of care... if you don’t take time to stand and stare... at God’s beauty all around us..."

She was a longtime active member of The Nazarene Church of Rockland, where for many years she taught Sunday School. She was recognized by the Maine Association of Nazarene Churches for her longevity and impact as a Sunday school teacher. In more recent years, she attended Souls Harbor Church of God in Rockland.

Pre-deceased by her husband in 1979, Nana is survived by two sons, Daniel Ames of Thomaston and Gary Ames of Boothbay Harbor; two daughters, Judith Steeves and her husband, Richard, and Debra Hendrick; three sisters, Dorothy Robinson, Shirley Henley, both of Rockland, and Doris Black and her husband, Walter, of South Thomaston; nine grandchildren, Richard Jr. and Cheryl, Steven and Rada, Jamie and Joanne, Jennifer and Uriah, Rachel and Jerrad, Shane and Liz, Jeramiah and Melissa, and Holly and Anthony; 13 great-grandchildren, Rebecca, Kevin, Ashley, Autumn, Amber, Jullian, Jarib and Desi, Jocelin and Kaleb, Caleb, Gavin, Mason, Mirabelle, and Gardner; four great great-grandchildren, Jadyne, Levi, Lorelei and Jeremiah; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit Thursday, June 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St. in Rockland, where a funeral service will be held Friday, June 28 at 2 p.m. The Rev. Chris Chapel will officiate. Interment will follow in Achorn Cemetery on Old County Road in Rockland.
