BELFAST — The professional development program at the University of Maine Hutchinson Center will offer a new Implementing Project Management certificate program on April 10, April 17 and April 24. The three-day program, taught by Angela Wheaton, runs from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., and includes a continental breakfast and catered lunch.

The fee is $495 per person, with need-based scholarships available.

Implementing Project Management focuses on using project management (PM) effectively, even in difficult work environments. Whether it’s scope creep, shifting deadlines, revolving team membership, resistance to best practices or other pitfalls, even great project managers face roadblocks to PM methods.

This three-day program will help participants establish a solid project management discipline to face the unique challenges their work presents. It is recommended for aspiring, new or established project managers, business owners, people managers and project stakeholders.

This certificate program uses teamwork and group activities to help participants learn tools and techniques for optimizing project management in their unique work environment. The content is designed for people who are just getting started with project management in their workplace, those who need a project management tune-up, and for well-established project managers who are stuck or want to take their practice to another level. There is a significant focus on risk, negotiation skills, conflict management, communication, team building, project tracking and performance management from the project manager’s perspective.

Portland-based instructor Angela Wheaton has a Master of Arts degree in theology and counseling (MATS), is certified by the Project Management Institute (PMP), holds a Scrum Master certification (CSM) and is a certified Facilitative Leader and Trainer. She has leadership experience in retail, banking, education, technology, social service and health care. Her passion is for completing projects, building teams and motivating people.
