New dog toy library at Thomaston Dog Park courtesy Troop 1335
In early November, Knox Service Unit Girl Scouts Troop 1335 launched a dog toy library at the Thomaston Dog park after noticing that some toys were worn out or in need of replacement.
They designed a simple system, according to a news release: a tote filled with toys sits at the park, with clear instructions on the lid inviting visitors to borrow a toy during their visit and return it before leaving. Health and safety considerations are posted to help keep both dogs and owners safe, and donations are welcomed to keep the library well stocked.
Community service is an important part of the Girl Scout experience, and many badges and awards include service components that encourage Scouts to make a positive impact in their neighborhood.
Troop 1335 hopes the new toy library brings joy to both the dogs and their owners throughout the community.
Girl Scouts of Maine builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. GSME provides services and support to over 12,000 girl and adult members statewide, and operates service centers and shops in South Portland and Bangor.
