Medomak girls travel basketball places second in Newcastle tournament

NEWCASTLE — The Medomak eighth grade girls travel basketball team participated in a basketball tournament hosted at Lincoln Academy on Tuesday, March 3 and Wednesday, March 4 and captured second place in the tournament after a pair of games. 

The tournament also featured a three-pointers contest between the four participating teams with Medomak topping Boothbay and Lincoln Academy topping Oceanside in semifinal action Tuesday. 

In the three-pointers contest championship, Medomak bested Lincoln Academy on Wednesday thanks to Medomak shooters Olivia Pelkey, Kytana Williamson, Katherine McKenney and Eliza Luce.

Medomak 45, Boothbay 16

On Tuesday, Medomak held quarterly leads of 18-7, 32-7 and 36-12 en route to a 45-16 victory. 

Scoring for Medomak were Eliza Luce (five), Kytana Williamson (four), Sara Nelson (four), Katherine McKenney (nine), Olivia Pelkey (seven), Haley Puchalski (six), Maya Cannon (six), Erica Waite (two) and Lilly Christ (two). 

Scoring for Boothbay were Jordan Chamness (six), Laura Chapman (four), Lizzie Pearce (four) and Anna Gosselin (two). 

Championship: Oceanside 42, Medomak 35

Oceanside maintained quarterly advantages on Wednesday of 5-4, 16-11 and 26-22 en route to a 42-35 victory. 

Scoring for Medomak were Kytana Williamson (two), Sara Nelson (three), Katherine McKenney (two), Olivia Pelkey (13), Haley Puchalski (two) and Maya Cannon (12). 

Scoring for Oceanside were Caitlyn Lamb (one), Sophie Vose (seven), Bailey Breen (24), Sophie Dagget (three), Jillian Barnard (one), Grace Webber (one) and Natalie Hitz (five).
