Medomak girls basketball wins Boothbay Harbor tournament

BOOTHBAY HARBOR — The Medomak seventh and eighth grade girls basketball team traveled to Boothbay Harbor to participate Friday, Feb. 28 and Saturday, Feb. 29 in the 46th annual Rotary International/YMCA girls junior high basketball tournament. 

After a series of hard-fought contests, Medomak collected a championship victory Saturday in Boothbay Harbor. 

The Medomak team is sponsored by Mid-Knight Auto Body of Rockland. 

Game One: Medomak 46, Five Town 8th 30

Medomak held a 24-19 advantage at the half after a strong opening half by both squads. 

Scoring for Medomak were Eliza Luce (five), Kytana Williamson (two), Sara Nelson (five), Olivia Pelkey (two), Maya Cannon (23), Audrey Jackson (six) and Lilly Christ (three). 

Scoring for Camden were Amelin Johnson (two), Jaden Johnson (four), Brenna Mackey (eight), Sierra Laukka (11), Kirsten Jones (two) and Brooke Hoppe (three). 

Game Two: Medomak 41, Lincoln Academy 10

Medomak held a 23-5 advantage at the halftime break. 

Scoring for Medomak were Eliza Luce (two), Kytana Williamson (three), Sara Nelson (two), Katherine McKenney (three), Olivia Pelkey (three), Maya Cannon (10), Audrey Jackson (14) and Lilly Christ (four). 

Scoring for Lincoln Academy were Mariam Delisle (six), Annie Peaslee (three) and Lucy Fowler (one). 

Game Three: Oceanside 35, Medomak 29

After posting an 18-0 run, Oceanside maintained a 22-13 advantage at the half. 

Scoring for Medomak were Eliza Luce (two), Kytana Williamson (six), Sara Nelson (four), Katherine McKenney (five), Haley Puchalski (two) and Maya Cannon (10). 

Scoring for Oceanside were Caitlyn Lamb (seven), Sophie Vose (three), Bailey Breen (23) and Grace Webber (two). 

Game Four: Medomak 28, Gardiner 22

At the half, Medomak held a 17-11 advantage. 

Scoring for Medomak were Eliza Luce (two), Kytana Williamson (two), Sara Nelson (three), Olivia Pelkey (two), Haley Puchalski (one), Maya Cannon (13) and Audrey Jackson (five). 

Scoring for Gardiner were Kaylee Elkins (10), Katie Johnson (two), Natalie Mohlar (five), Katya Wruth (two) and Isabelle Stewart (three). 

Championship: Medomak 23, Oceanside 20

In a defense-powered contest, the halftime pause saw both teams with seven points. 

With less than a minute remaining in the game, Medomak tied the contest at 20 when Maya Cannon hit one-of-two free throws. Kytana Williamson then pushed Medomak to a 22-20 lead before Eliza Luce pushed the lead to 23-20.

Scoring for Oceanside were Caitlyn Lamb (two), Sophie Vose (two), Bailey Breen (14) and Natalie Hitz (two). 

“It was end to end action, you would not know that the gym was a rockin' if you only looked at the score, but it sure was,” said Medomak coach Andrea Williamson.
