MALVERN, Pennsylvania — Mary Daniels Sohier died January 27, 2023, two weeks after her 102nd birthday. Born in Boston in 1921, she was the second of three children of Edward Perry Daniels, a Unitarian minister, and his wife, Helene.

After parishes in Hingham, Massachusetts, and Santa Barbara, California, the family moved to Concord, Massachusetts, where he took over the First Parish Church.

Mary met her future husband, George D. (Deck) Sohier, a classmate at Concord High School. They graduated together and left for college – Deck at Harvard and Mary at Radcliffe. Mary was a music major, a fine pianist, and a lifelong classical music enthusiast. They were married July, 1943 while Deck was in the Army.

The family settled in Malvern, Pennsylvania, in 1951, raising three sons, Edward, Nicholas, and John.

Mary was a member of the Main Line Unitarian Church, Devon, Pennsylvania, for more than 60 years. She was also an avid and active actress with the Main Line’s Footlighters Theater, and in later years, a volunteer with the Chester County Library and local blood drives.

The family owned a summer home in Rockland, Maine, where she spent many summers, even continuing after her husband of 59 years passed away in 2002.

Mary was predeceased by her sister, Jane Hosmer, of Newport, Rhode Island and brother, Edward P. Daniels Jr., of Newcastle, Maine.

She is survived by her three sons, Ted (Jane Gurney Bolster), of Pittsburgh; Nicholas, of Philadelphia; and John (Dennis Ritz) of Winter Garden, Florida; also grandson Nathaniel Sohier, of Pittsburgh; step-granddaughter Clara Bolster-Foucault, of Montreal; and sister-in-law, June Daniels.

A memorial service is planned for the Main Line Unitarian Church in the near future.
