Man convicted of manslaugher going back to jail for violating probation
ROCKLAND — A Spruce Head man who was convicted and served jail time for causing a 2014 car crash that killed a woman and seriously injured one of her two passengers, was sentenced April 27 to three days in jail for his second probation violation since being released.
Samuel Simmons, 22, was sentenced April 27 in Knox County Unified Court in Rockland to three days in jail for night hunting and possession of a deer killed at night in Owls Head on Nov. 11, 2016. Night hunting is defined as 30 minutes after sunset and 30 minutes before sunrise.
Simmons was also fined $1,000 by the court.
Simmons was sentenced in January 2016 to 12 years in prison with all but nine months suspended for manslaughter and aggravated driving to endanger. His probation was set at four years, he was fined $575 and his license was suspended for two years.
The accident occurred March 20, 2014 on Route 1 when Simmons’ vehicle, a 1997 GMC Sierra pickup truck, crossed the center line, near the intersection of Western Road and struck head-on the Subaru Forester that Low was driving.
Alison Low, 38, of Warren, died at the scene of the crash. The two passengers in Low's vehicle, her 18-year-old son Dustin Kimball, of Warren, and Olivia Blachet, 18, of Waldoboro, were both injured. They were treated at Maine Medical Center in Portland. Kimball was released on March 21 and Blachet was hospitalized for several months with serious injuries.
