SEARSPORT —Maine Ocean School Foundation (MOSF), a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, exists solely to enhance, expand, and enrich the education of high school students of Maine Ocean School through private donations, gifts, and grants.

Maine Ocean School in Searsport is one of only two magnet schools authorized by the Maine Legislature. A free public high school, Maine Ocean School provides quality ocean-themed education based on Maine’s 300-year-old maritime history, emphasizing leadership, work ethic, and the transferable skills associated with careers involving the ocean, preparing a new generation of mariners and maritime workers.

Under current legislation, the Maine Department of Education funds a portion of the operating budget for Maine Ocean School. Maine Ocean School Foundation makes up the difference through private donations, gifts, and grants. MOSF operates with 100% efficiency, with every dollar raised going directly or indirectly to support students of Maine Ocean School – operating budget, programs, curriculum materials, extracurricular activities, and towards an endowment for future use.

“It’s a tremendously generous gift we received,” said Mark Haley, who is chair of the Foundation. “Maine Ocean School Foundation’s job now is to raise $50,000 in donations over the next two months to maximize the benefit of the matching gift. Every dollar we raise goes twice as far. My fellow board members and volunteers work extremely hard to support the school and the students. This gift is a testament to our efforts and to the future of Maine Ocean School.”
