emotional, physical, and nutritional well-being of cancer patients

Maine Cancer Series virtual conference, Nov. 4

Thu, 10/28/2021 - 4:00pm

The Christine B. Foundation and Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center will be co-hosting their Maine Cancer Series, starting with the Downeast Living With Cancer Conference: Living With Cancer In The Time of a Pandemic. The event will be held via Zoom this year on Thursday, November 4, 2021, at 9 a.m., and will focus on the emotional, physical, and nutritional well-being of cancer patients.

“Despite your cancer diagnosis, where you live, or your age, finding resources and support can be challenging,” said Christine B. Foundation founder and executive director, Matt Dexter, in a news release. “This conference, and all that will follow in the Maine Cancer Series, is meant to inspire, educate, and unite our cancer community. You're not facing cancer alone.”

Cancer is the leading cause of death in the state of Maine, with rates highest in Eastern Maine, according to the release. Based on American Cancer Society estimates, there will be 10,090 new cases of cancer in the State of Maine through 2021. Many Mainers are met with challenges to overcome the burdens brought on by cancer due to the high poverty rates, rural geographic plain, and transportation distances--made even harder by the pandemic.

Since 2007, the Downeast Living With Cancer Conference has been bringing cancer survivors together to share experiences with each other and to inspire each other.

Agenda Highlights:

Keynote - Dr. Jim Jarvis, practicing family physician and the director of Clinical Education for Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center.

Featured Speaker - Susan Corbett, National Digital Equity Center

Sessions on nutrition, emotional well-being, and cancer survivorship, among other important cancer-related topics.

The Conference is asking for people to pre-register for the conference at https://www.mainecancerseries.org/events.
