Local Color Gallery welcomes back artist Sandra Huck
Local Color Gallery welcomes back guest artist Sandra Huck, whose work will be displayed from January 21 through February 21. Huck will talk about her work, “Conversations with Found Objects” at this month’s Art Walk reception, Friday, Jan. 23, from 4 to 7 p.m. Huck will speak at 5 p.m. (weather permitting).
Huck explores the inherent beauty of found objects by integrating them into mixed-media reliefs on canvas. This fusion of materials allows her to create textured, multidimensional compositions that speak to the intersection of time and transformation, according to Local Color Gallery, in a news release. Each piece is a conversation between the raw, often discarded materials and the mindful arrangement she imposes on them.
Over time, Huck’s work has deepened in its exploration of the boundaries of traditional sculpture and two-dimensional art forms. Through this practice, she has learned to embrace the unexpectedness of found materials. Each find – a rock, feather, driftwood or a piece of rusted metal – has its own unique beauty.
Huck studied art at the University of Maine at Presque Isle and advanced sculpture at Teachers College in New York City. She lives Caribou.
Local Color Gallery is located at 135 High Street in Belfast. Winter hours are Wednesday through Saturday, 11 to 4. For more information see localcolorgallerymaine.org or call 207-218-1249.
