WARREN — Laken Kyle Harrington, 14, died unexpectedly at his home Aug. 21, 2013.

Born in Rockport July 20, 1999, he was the son of Leroy I. IV and Judith A. Lea Harrington. Growing up in Warren, Laken attended local schools and this year was beginning his freshman year at Medomak Valley High School in Waldoboro.

From an early age, Laken was involved in all sports, including PeeWee basketball, Farm Teams baseball and soccer. He began wrestling while in Kindergarten and played Little League baseball through the seventh-grade. He played in the expanded seasons with all sports, and annually attended basketball and soccer camps. While soccer was his favorite sport, he was beginning to show special talents in basketball. This year he was also involved in track. Laken lived to compete.

Laken's family remembers him as the consummate son, brother, cousin and friend. His mom said he was a “social butterfly.” She also said that he kept McDonald's in business. He particularly enjoyed bacon, earning the nickname “Laken Bacon.” Always on the move, he enjoyed playing with his cousins, playing video games, swimming and hunting. He loved spending time with his grandparents.

A true sports fanatic, Laken could recall stats and information for any sport and player, of any team.

He loved his dogs, but moreover his brothers, sister, nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Leroy and Judith; Laken is survived by two brothers, Dustin M. Blackington and Nicholas R. Harrington, his sister, Tristan D. Harrington; his paternal grandparents, Leroy III and Pamela Harrington, all of Warren; his maternal grandparents, Stephen Lea of Rockland and Carol Mullett of Union; his aunts and uncles, Lori and Steve Robinson, Jared and Amy Lea, Mike and Amber Lea, and Larry and Amy Stelzer; as well his great-grandparents; nieces; nephews; and cousins.
