CAMDEN — Jimmy "Jim" Leroy Hall (U.S. Army E-4 Recovery Specialist), 83, born October 15, 1942, in Camden, Maine went to be with his beloved wife, Clare, on September 11, 2026. He passed away at his family home in Camden.
Jim grew up in Camden, Maine, where he decided to serve his country just three days after he graduated from Camden High School. He served from 1960-1963 as an E-4 Recovery Specialist in the United States Army and was assigned to the XIII (13th) Army Corps during the Cold War Era. He was stationed in Fort Dix, New Jersey, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, Yongsan Garrison, Seoul Korea and Fort Benning, Georgia. He was awarded medals in both Sharpshooter (Rifle) and Marksman (Carbine). He was a proud lifetime member of The American Legion Post #1 and VFW Post #3108.
Jim enjoyed spending time alongside the love of his life of 26 years, Clare O'Connor Hall, who predeceased him on October 28, 2002. Their daughter, Elizabeth Jane, was born to them on March 16, 1978. Jim and Clare spent many years being very involved in several local churches together. They loved going to yard sales, thrift stores, and spending time with family.
After his time in the Army Jim worked in Connecticut at Pratt and Whitney and then moved back to Maine where he worked at the Camden Tannery. He drove dump truck for George Hall and Sons, and drove cement truck for Ferrelio. He co-owned, with his mom and step father, Cushing Trap Company for several years. Jim also worked in accounting doing accounts receivable for many years at Downeast Enterprise, National Fisherman, and Target Marketing where he was also the Collections and Credit Manager. He also worked nights for many years in the electronics department at Ames in Rockland
After his wife Clare's passing in 2002, Jim met his friend and companion, Rae Perry of Hope. Together they loved to travel to their timeshare in Freeport, Grand Bahamas. They loved going to local country dances together and playing pool. They spent as much time together as they could until Rae's passing from cancer in 2017.
In Jim's earlier years he loved playing base guitar in a local band with Russ Cornell. In his later years he also played bass guitar with his cousin Dick Philbrook in the Frye Mountain Band. After his wife's passing, he and his daughter, Elizabeth, spent as much time as possible together at their favorite spot, The Waterworks. He was known to many as "Cowboy Jim" because he always had his cowboy hat on. Jim spent as much time as he could over the years going to class reunions and getting together with his fellow classmates. He loved listening to Country Music and his favorite pastime was playing pool with anyone who was willing to call every shot! He played on several APA teams over the years, including one with his daughter. He looked forward to every Friday night playing at The American Legion with his fellow brothers in arms. Even with his heart failing him, he played right up until the very night of his passing, doing exactly what he loved to do and won six games that night!
Jim is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Brown and her husband Forrest Brown, along with children Maynard Stanley IV, his wife Lifia; Matthew Stanley and his fiancée Lauren; Tamika Brown, and her fiancée Ben Rackcliff. He is also survived by his sister Judith Hall Armstrong, his caregiver in his final days, niece Tracy Armstrong Robbins, Tina Armstrong Crowell and her husband Henry. He also leaves behind several great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, many fellow classmates and friends he also considered family.
In addition to his beloved wife, Clare, Jim was predeceased by his parents, Jenness "Mike" Hall and Elmore "Ellie" Greenlaw Polk; his step father, William "Bill" Polk; and his sister Ann Polk Brown; his grandmother Golda Wentworth Hall and grandfather Leslie "Old Mike" Hall. He is also predeceased by his niece Tammy Armstrong Lindsey.
A celebration of Jim's life will be held on Sunday, October 11, 2026, from 5 - 7 p.m., at Jim's favorite local spot, The Waterworks, which is owned by Vicki whom he loved like a daughter.
