STOCKTON SPRINGS — James W. McKenney, 78 of Stockton Springs, “Jim” to close friends and family, went to his eternal home on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, surrounded by his family, at Penobscot Valley Hospital in Lincoln, Maine.

James is predeceased by his father, Harold C. McKenney Sr., and mother, Doris M. Roundy McKenney, as well as three sisters and three brothers.

He was born on July 25 1943 in Dexter, Maine.

James was educated from grade school to high school in Stockton Springs. He furthered his education when he joined the United States Navy serving on the USS Enterprise. After serving his beloved country he went on to serve his neighbors and community as a police officer in Bucksport and Ellsworth as well as serving as sheriff in Dickinson County, Kansas.

He continued working as a private detective before returning to Maine where his love for the Lord called him to become an ordained minister and he witnessed and helped countless to find the Lord.

James leaves behind a wife of 58 years, Janet S. (Gentz) McKenney; brother Harold C. McKenney Jr, and wife Linda of Stockton Springs; his six children, Julie L. Larrabee, Janine D. Colcord, Judith A. Stover, James W. McKenney II, Jolinda S. McKenney, and Joshua J. McKenney. Together they blessed him with 19 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 24, 2021, at 11 a.m., at Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast, ME. Family interment with military honors will follow.
