FRIENDSHIP — Harold W. Lash, 92, passed away at home June 17, 2013.

Born in Friendship March 23, 1921, he was one of 14 children born to Robert Sr. and Levilda Carter Lash. Harold grew up in Friendship and had many fond memoires of his childhood, which he loved to share with family members. He was a graduate of Thomaston High School.

Following high school Harold worked in a machine shop in New Bedford for two years. He then served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater during World War II. He married Elsie Bond in Jefferson Aug. 1, 1947. Together they made their home in Friendship, raising three children.

For many years Harold worked at Lash Brothers Boat Yard and later was part owner of Sprowl and Lash in Rockland. After retirement, Harold and Elsie enjoyed traveling to Florida in their RV. Family was very important to Harold and he was always waiting with a smile and an old story for them.

Over the years Harold enjoyed sailing Dirigo during the Friendship Sloop Races and also in the Retired Skippers Race in Castine. He was a member of the Friendship United Methodist Church since 1949, and the Friendship Lodge of Masons.

Harold will be remembered for his quick wit and dry sense of humor. He loved meeting new people and learning about them. He was a friend to everyone he met. His children said he loved Friendship and was happy to call it his home.
