Good Tern, Hole in the Wall adjust hours and services

Sat, 03/21/2020 - 7:30pm
In response to concerns presented by the coronavirus, Good Tern Co-op and Hole in the Wall Bagels in Rockland have made changes to their hours and services to insure the safety of staff and customers while continuing to serve the needs of the community.

As of  Wednesday March 18, the Hole in the Wall closed its counter service until at least March 31 when the decision will be re-evaluated.

Bagel production will continue and Hole in the Wall bagel fans can purchase bagels at the Good Tern Co-op. Good Tern has shortened its hours to 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to give staff time to restock the store and to reduce close contact between staff and customers.

Co-op and Bagel shop Co-managers Brandy Monroe and Laura LaPointe emphasize that the co-op is determined to do all it can to support the community. To this end the co-op is continuing to keep produce, frozen foods, dairy products, bulk items, and health and beauty items available with the support of unique local producers.

“Right now we are doing our best and will continue to do everything we can keep our shelves stocked,” said Monroe, in a news release.

“We’re lucky to be in New England where we have a lot of farmers, a lot of local produce and producers, “ adds Laura. “So far we’re in good shape.”

While the co-op cafe is closed for sit-down dining, the deli is still making plenty of food for take out. Lindsay Crawford and Mary Smith, who co-manage the deli operation, are working with their staff to keep take out food prepped for customers on a daily basis.

“We are keeping the grab-and-go fridge and our hot case stocked,” said Mary. “ We have bagel breakfast sandwiches, regular sandwiches, noodle salads, and soups available everyday. And of course we have muffins and cookies too.”

With the coronavirus crisis evolving on a daily basis, and with new directives from the federal and state level coming in daily, the Good Tern is working to support the needs of the community while remaining flexible. The Good Tern is a member-owned natural food co-op which is open to the public. For information about hours and products call 594-8822.
