George William Heald, obituary
BANGOR and LINCOLNVILLE — George William Heald, 65, of Bangor and Lincolnville, died suddenly of natural causes August 28, 2025 in Bangor.
George was born May 29, 1960 in Nassau County, Long Island, New York the youngest child of Frederick O. and E. Lucille (Connors) Heald. He grew up summering with his family in the founding family’s ancestral farm home in Lincolnville, Maine. This formed the basis of his lifelong love of nature, horticulture, hiking, sailing and lobstering.
He graduated from Levittown Memorial High School and attended the horticulture program at SUNY, Farmingdale, New York. After the family retired to Lincolnville, George took horticulture classes at University of Maine, Orono, learned to sail a 65 foot windjammer and studied boat building under Walter Simmons. He held a family lobstering license which he soon had his brothers helping him pull the few traps his license allowed.
Having studied horticulture, he started a landscape business. In addition to his business, he was a skilled mechanic. He bought a “beater” car and completely restored it on his own. In many instances his brother Don took him under his wing to encourage his musical abilities. Many of his happiest times were joining in with family in the Lincolnville band on his baritone horn.
George had a lifelong love of drawing and watercolors. He also loved family gatherings many of which took place at the Ducktrap beach, one of his favorite places.
He enjoyed attending services at Lincolnville United Christian Church and was also a member of Levittown Community Church on Long Island, New York.
He is survived by his brother Frederick A. Heald of Columbus, Ohio; sister Jane M. Heald of Fort Wayne, Indiana; nephew Timothy J. Heald of Virginia; and niece Paula R. Heald of North Carolina. He is survived by Aunt Nancy Heald and Aunt Betty Heald of Lincolnville. He is survived by cousins Deborah Roberts, Ernest Connors, Anne Connors, Donald R. Heald III, Jennifer Heald Couch and Travis Heald. He is also survived by step cousins Karen Lewis, Murray Lewis, and Trudy Lewis Bengivenni.
He is survived by his very close long term friends Jimmy and Laura Winters of Orono, Maine.
He was predeceased by his beloved parents, Frederick O. Heald and E. Lucille (Connors) Heald, and his brother Donald V. Heald.
A celebration of life is being planned for some time next summer in Lincolnville.
