ROCKLAND — George H. Small, 73, died peacefully, following a period of declining health, May 16, 2013, at Knox Center for Long Term Care. 

Born in Camden Nov. 10, 1939, he was the son of George B. and Abbie Pendleton Small. Educated locally, he attended Camden Schools. 

Moving to Rockland in 1979, George began his working career as a custodian with the housekeeping department at Pen Bay Medical Center, working there more than eight years. He also worked five years with the CETA Program at Bancroft School in Owls Head, and finished his career with the custodial staff at Knox Center for Long Term Care. 

For many years George has been an active communicant of St. Peters Episcopal Church, enjoying participation in the choir, soup kitchen and Holy Order of Chriseal.

An avid animal lover, George took great joy in his long-haired cat, Tinkerbell. He also took great pleasure in gardening, raising beautiful roses. 

Most recently George has enjoyed attending the First Universalist Church in Rockland, where he made many friends. 

George leaves behind a sister and brother-in-law of Camden; four nephews; and one niece.

Friends are invited to visit Friday, May 24, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St. in Rockland, where a celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. The Rev. Theodore Kanellakis, will officiate.

Interment will follow at Mt. View Cemetery in Camden.
