Fisher claims first ever Oceanside Little League Baseball championship

ROCKLAND — In the first ever Oceanside Little League Baseball championship, top-seed Fisher dominated the game and nabbed bragging rights with an 11-1 mercy-rule victory over sixth-seed Kiwanis on June 14 at Rockland’s Gordon Field.
Fisher scored four runs in the first and second innings, while adding three in the third inning. The lone run for Kiwanis came in the third inning.
Team members for Fisher included Karl Ilvonen, Carson Murphy, Austin Pagano, Cole Stevens, Jude Forti, Logan Putansu, Finnegan Lynch, Hunter Norton, Nick Sherman, Ryan Lewis, Parker Hilchey, Jason Leclerc and Ryker Weaver. John Murphy was the manager and Russell Stevens and Davin Putansu served as coaches.
Team members for Kiwanis included Ben Ripley, Hunter Yattaw, Kasey Campbell, Bradley Steeves, Aidan Bonzagni, Noah Ames, Max Bonzagni, Brady Wadsworth, Elijah Esancy, Conrad Burke, Ethan Carballo and Derrik Emerson. Parker Wadsworth was the manager, while Bob Wadsworth and Will Bonzagni served as coaches.
For Fisher, Murphy led the way at the plate with two doubles, three runs and three runs-batted-in. Other contributors included Lynch (single, 2 runs), Forti (3 runs), Ilvonen (2 runs), Stevens (run) and Pagano (2 singles, run, 2 RBIs).
At the plate for Kiwanis, Campbell led the way with a double, while Ames had a single and an RBI and Wadsworth was the only player to cross the plate.
On the mound, Ames and Campell pitched for Kiwanis, while Forti and Stevens worked the mound for Fisher.
Stevens, who pitched the final third of the final inning, was given the green-light to play on Friday by doctors after he suffered an arm injury earlier in the season, according to head coach John Murphy. Murphy thought it was only fitting to have their top pitcher close out the championship game, while making sure to not re-injure the arm.
