First annual Climate Resilience Fair to be held in Belfast
The Waldo County Climate Action Coalition announces its first annual Climate Resilience Fair, Saturday, June 7, from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m., at Steamboat Landing in Belfast.
"If you are curious to learn about staying cool in summer and warm in the winter more cost-effectively, reducing the amount of household garbage you throw away, or you just want to have fun with outdoor family activities and games – then this is the fair for you," said WCCAC, in a news release.
The Climate Resilience Fair will bring together 40+ local businesses and nonprofits with resources and examples of how to make your home and landscape more environmentally friendly and prepare for extreme weather. This free event will also include speakers, family activities, music, and food trucks – Portable Pie Place and Stone Fox Creamery.
Learn about electric bikes and cars; heat pumps for your home or business, solar panels and other renewable energy technologies; native plants and shrubs; land conservation; composting; and food security.
The family activities area will include making your own upcycled puppet, participating in a nature scavenger hunt (with prizes!), starting your own bean plants, and fun lawn games.
Music starts at 12 noon in the gazebo with local favorite band “Sea Strings.”
Throughout the day, speakers will include Maine State Climatologist Sean Birkel; Jack Shapiro, Natural Resource Council of Maine Climate and Clean Energy Program Director; David Gibson, Director of Energy, College of the Atlantic, and more will be announced soon.
