CUSHING — Fay R. MacCormick, 75, passed away peacefully at home July 12, 2013. She was the widow of James A. MacCormick, who died April 11, 2009.

Born May 4, 1939, she was the daughter of Aurel R. and Erma Spear Chicoine. She graduated from Warren High School in 1957 as salutatorian. Her high school role as art editor of the yearbook was followed by a life of creativity through her music. She performed locally as a church soloist, at the Farnsworth Art Museum, on a TV show in Portland, and in Maine and Boston as a member of the "Cramerata," singing classical Czechoslovakian folk songs and arias. She dabbled in embroidery, rug hooking, quilting, stenciling, painting and interior design, designing the interior of an 18th century period reproduction gambrel roof home and designing the interior and exterior of two smaller residences.

She worked at the Reading Corner in Rockland and served as a docent at the General Henry Knox Museum in Thomaston. She was co-proprietor, with her late husband, of Four Winds Bed and Breakfast and Heron's Reach Bed and Breakfast, where guests from around the country and abroad enjoyed her impressive collection of Victorian antiques and magnificent gardens. She had a passion for cooking and hosted many gatherings over the years. As an animal lover, numerous cats and dogs were adopted into her household. Fay was a member of Broad Cove Church in Cushing.

Mrs. MacCormick is survived by her sons, David Hynd and his wife, Gaylea, of Thomaston and Jonathan Hynd and his companion, Caroline Hooper, of Cushing; her daughter, Rebecca Hynd of Lincolnville; her sister, Gail Chicoine of Warren; and six grandchildren, Joanna, Katie, James, Peter, Nick, and Codi; as well as her caregiver, Mark Morey of Cushing.

At her request, a private gathering will be held to honor her memory.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Pope Memorial Humane Society of Knox County, P. O. Box 1294, Rockland, ME 04841.

Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home in Rockland. To share a memory or condolence with Fay's family, visit her Book of Memories online at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins.
