Knox-Lincoln Soil & Water Conservation District (KLSWCD) will host an Environmental Youth Education Fundraiser, Tuesday, March 24, from 5 to 8 p.m., at American Flatbread Company, 399 Commercial Street (U.S. Route 1) in Rockport. American Flatbread will donate a portion of the evening’s pizza sales to support KLSWCD’s free K–12 education programs for students in Knox and Lincoln counties. Programs include the National Conservation Poster Contest (grades K–6), Read ME Agriculture (Pre-K–4), and the Maine Envirothon competition (grades 9–12).

Attendees will also be able to view winning entries from this year’s conservation poster contest, “Soil. Where it all Begins.” This winter, KLSWCD Program Development Specialists Louisa Crane and Cindy Wright presented learning sessions about healthy soils in schools across Knox and Lincoln counties. More than 680 students from 79 classrooms in 21 schools submitted original posters exploring soil’s role in supporting life.

Posters were evaluated on conservation messaging, visual effectiveness, and originality.

"Congratulations to the following overall winners, who will receive conservation- and education- minded prizes and will be entered into the state-level competition," said KLSWCD, in a news release.

 Grades K–1 Category Winner and Overall Winner: Jace Krah, Great Salt Bay Community School

 Grades 2–3 Category Winner: Juniper Carlson, Ashwood Waldorf School

 Grades 4–6 Category Winner: Madison Woodbine, Nobleboro Central School

The judges also selected one honorable mention in the grades 4–6 category:

"Congratulations to all participating students across Knox and Lincoln counties for their thoughtful, impactful posters," said KLSWCD.
