Enrollment open for Penobscot Bay YMCA after school programs
Enrollment is underway for Penobscot Bay YMCA after school programs at Camden Rockport Elementary School, Ash Point Community School in Owls Head, South School in Rockland, and Thomaston Grammar School.
The Y’s After School Programs accept children enrolled in the elementary school that the program serves, for grades kindergarten and up. Families must register online for either the 3 or 5 day option by visiting the Penobscot Bay YMCA website.
After school programs operate Monday-Friday from school dismissal until 5:30 p.m. The program operates on regularly scheduled school days and follows the district school calendar that the program serves. The program will be available on pre-scheduled early release days.
Tuition fees vary depending on the specific school site and the number of days the child attends each week.
YMCA programs are accessible to everyone regardless of financial need, according to the Y, in a news release. No child is turned away based on the ability to pay. The Y accepts DHHS subsidy, CCAP, and provides financial assistance to families who do not qualify for subsidy. Please contact Sports, Camping & Afterschool Director Benjie Blake (bblake@penbayymca.org) for more information or support with enrollment.
“After school programs are at their best when kids feel supported, welcomed, and excited to be there,” said Blake, in the news release. “Every afternoon, we focus on creating a safe space where students can unwind, explore, and connect, while giving families reliable care they can trust.”
After school programs help bridge the local care gap by providing school age kids a safe environment for learning, filled with imaginative activities, physical activity, STEM activities, snacks, arts and crafts, according to the Y.
"The Penobscot Bay YMCA’s After School Programs provide the community with safe, licensed, affordable, quality programming for elementary-aged children," said the news release.
Each Y Afterschool Program has an on-site coordinator leading the program and curriculum plan.
