NORTH HAVEN — Elliott C. Brown, 87, died peacefully, Friday, July 9, 2021, at Northern Lights Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

Born in Bath, December 24, 1933, he was the son of Cecil Elliott and Florence Smith Brown. Elliott lived in Brunswick, until moving to North Haven with his mother and brother in the early 1940s.

He was always thankful for the life skills and lessons he learned as a Boy Scout.

A 1953 graduate of North Haven High School, while in high school he met “the love of his life,” Jane Quinn. They were married on September 3, 1955, and in the ensuing years, were blessed with four children.

With a love of music, Elliott played the saxophone, banjo and clarinet. While in high school he played basketball and sang in the church choir. He enjoyed singing in Legion plays, playing in the town band and was a member of an orchestra that played at weddings, funerals and special events. He was a member of the North Haven Baptist Church, where he was baptized as a young boy.

Always active in his work and community, Elliott worked on the town roads for the Road Commissioners. He worked as a carpenter and built a sawmill where he milled logs into lumber. In the early days, he used draft
horses to haul the logs. He owned his own gravel pit, which is still used for his contracting business, Elliott C. Brown General Contracting, Inc., now being run by his family. In the early 60s, he went lobstering for a few
years.

Shortly after they were married, Elliott and Jane bought the old Ira Whitmore farm. On that farm Elliott enjoyed keeping Black Angus Cattle, pigs and ducks. In 1965 the old farmhouse burned down, after which the Browns built a ranch style house on the same foundation, where Elliott lived the remainder of his life.

From 1956 -1966 and again from 1970 until the time of his passing, Elliott served as Road Commissioner for the Town of North Haven, making him the longest standing Road Commissioner in the state. He served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Fox Islands Electric Cooperative, Inc. from 1979-2016, and was on the North Haven School Board in the early 1970s. He was a member of The Grand Lodge of Maine and The Royal Arch Chapter, a Master and member of the Moses Webster Lodge of Masons #145, North Haven, Kora Temple Shrine of Lewiston and the North Haven Lions Club.

Elliott and Jane enjoyed camping, going on motorcycle trips with friends in their earlier days, and later going on Carnival cruises with friends.

Known as an antique car enthusiast, Elliott’s love of antique cars started in the early 1970s. He had a passion for buying and restoring antique autos. For more than 40 years, he attended the Amherst, New Hampshire antique car flea market, and for 25 years, the Stowe, Vermont car show. For several years he attended the Early Ford V-8 Meet in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, The Early Antique Engine Meets in Orange, Massachusetts, Dublin, New Hampshire and Elliott, Maine. He was a member of the Model A Ford Club of America for several years, and the Model T Snowmobile Club. He built and restored several antique cars, winning several prizes and trophies. His last project was restoring a 1934 Ford V-8 Woody wagon, which was recently completed by his friend Carl Sneirson under Elliott’s guidance.

Elliott loved meeting new people and made friends easily. He enjoyed regaling listeners with his many stories and jokes.

Other than his parents, Elliott was pre-deceased by a grandson, Christopher E. Brown, Jr., and a brother Jack W. Brown.
