ROCKLAND — Elizabeth B. Lombardo, 89, died Saturday, November 9, 2019, surrounded by her children at Avita of Stroudwater Assisted Living in Westbrook.

Born in Winslow, November 28, 1929, she was the daughter of William and Constance Fifield Brewster. After moving to Rockland at a young age, she was educated in local schools.

Elizabeth was predeceased by her loving husband of 49 years, Joseph N. Lombardo, who left this earth on September 11, 1993.

Our family was so fortunate to have this very intelligent, well-read woman as our loving mother and grandmother. Much like her own mother, she was a progressive thinker, open-minded, strongly principled and exceptionally kind. She married into a big Italian family and learned to speak the language and cook with the best of them! Family mattered most to Mom. She took great pride in teaching her children to be fiercely independent and capable.

Mom loved us without question and accepted each of us with all our differences. With ease and without judgement, she loved and accepted those we brought into our family. Mom leaves behind a family that is deeply saddened by their loss but forever grateful for all the gifts she brought us. We will miss the way her beautiful face lit up so full of love each time she saw us. Together with Dad, she created a family who will proudly continue her legacy by loving the generations to come in all the ways she taught us.

Elizabeth is survived by four children, Pasquale J. Lombardo of Bedford, Nova Scotia, David J. Lombardo and his wife Susan of Hollis Center, Anthony ‘Tony’ Lombardo and his wife Sue of Westbrook, Mary C. Lombardo
of South Portland; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Friday, Nov. 15, at 11 a.m., at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. The Reverend Robert Vaillancourt will officiate. A reception will follow at the funeral homes 104 Limerock reception center. Interment will be in Coughlin Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, Maine Chapter, 383 US Route One, #2C, Scarborough, ME 04074.
