Eleanor M. (Amsden) Bennett, obituary

MORRILL — Eleanor M. (Amsden) Bennett, 97 of Morrill, passed away July 25, 2019 in Belfast.  Eleanor was born April 5, 1922 in Jackson, Maine where she grew up. Eleanor attended Morse Memorial School and graduated in 1940. In her younger years, she worked for her room and board. She went on to work at the canning factory in Brooks and the shoe factory in Belfast.   She also worked cleaning houses for many years.

Eleanor raised the last of her three children by herself making many sacrifices to ensure her children were provided for properly.  Some of her accomplishments she was proud of were paying off the debt of her home, purchasing vehicles and putting her children's well-being as a priority.  Eleanor instilled hard work, independence and fairness to all in her five children.  

Some of the activities she enjoyed throughout her life were cooking, canning, dancing and knitting.  She loved having her family around, especially on holidays.  Many summers were spent in Fort Fairfield with family.  Those times were treasured memories for her.

She is predeceased by her husband, Chester H. Bennett; four siblings, Beulah Ward, Helen Cummins, Nina Marriner and Wilma Johnson. 

Eleanor is survived by her five children, Larry Bennett and wife Mary Ann, Sherwood Bennett and wife Claudette, Clifford Bennett, Christine Brewer and husband Ted, Susan Whitcomb and husband Greg; nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and four great, great grandchildren.  

Private burial will be at Jackson Corner Cemetery.  Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home, Belfast.  Memories and condolences may be shared at ripostafh.com.
