ST. GEORGE — Doreen A. (Hupper) Stanley, 89, died peacefully following a brief illness, Thursday, September 5, 2019 at Penobscot Bay Medical Center, surrounded by her family.

Born November 25, 1929, in Rockland, she was the second of seven children born to Phillip and Audrey (McCormick) Hupper of Port Clyde.

She attended local schools and was proud to be a 1966 graduate of Georges Valley High School, in Thomaston.

On October 29, 1947 she married Vernon Stanley. The couple made their home and raised their family in Tenants Harbor.

Doreen was a homemaker for many years, often substitute teaching at St. George Elementary School. She eventually went on to become an office manager and bookkeeper for several local businesses.

She enjoyed knitting mittens for all the children in the neighborhood as well as beautiful sweaters for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to read and baked the most delicious pies and cookies, feeding everyone and anyone she could. Her wisdom, strength, and kindness will be missed by all. Doreen donated to multiple causes and foundations and was always willing to help in any way she could. She often donated the extra mittens that she knit to the local schools for the children to have on snowy days.

She was truly a remarkable woman.

Predeceased by her husband, Vernon “Bun” Stanley in 2017; their son, Gregory in 1971; a daughter-in-law, Lynn Stanley; Doreen is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Carla and Charles Cumming of Bolton
Landing NY, Ellen and Richard Freeman of Tenants Harbor, Claudia and Dario Ramirez of Plainville CT; a son, Bruce Stanley of St. George; four grandchildren, David Cumming and his wife Maureen, Nicole VanVuren
and her husband Tom, Ashlee Reynolds and her husband Travis, Kelsey Prock and her husband Tyler; great- grandchildren, Courtney, Charlie, Sarah, Henry, Owen, Rose, Aubrey, and Alison, as well as many nieces and
nephews.

A celebration of her life will be held Friday, November 29, at 1 p.m., at the St. George Baptist Church in Tenants Harbor with the Rev. William Hickey officiating.

A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.
