VINALHAVEN — Donna Amy (Woodcock) Ames, 76, wife of Addison W. Ames Sr., passed away April 29, 2013, at the Ivan Calderwood Homestead in Vinalhaven. She was the daughter of Donald and Amy (Columb) Woodcock and attended Vinalhaven schools. Donna married Addison Wallace Ames April 8, 1953, in Vinalhaven.

A devoted wife and mother, Donna also worked for her mother, who owned Seabreeze Restaurant. The restaurant developed a fine reputation for the best crab rolls for miles around. The popularity of crab rolls was attributed to Donna, who carefully processed and shelled thousands of pounds of crabmeat for 24 years until 1972, when she retired.

Donna always enjoyed riding her bicycle throughout the island. She also accompanied her husband when going to haul lobsters, filling his bait bags and working the boat.

Surviving are her husband, Addison W. Ames Sr.; four children, Daniel Ames and his wife, Linda Whittington, Diane Olson and her husband, Mark, Donald C. Ames and his wife, Jeanne Bineau, and Addison W. Ames Jr.; a sister, Dorothea Ames; three grandchildren, Hilary Walker, Elijah Bineau Ames and Owen Bineau Williams; a great-grandson, Bentley Eaton; her mother-in-law, Ruth Ames; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Donald Woodcock.

A memorial service will be announced in July. Memorial donations may be made in her memory to Ivan Calderwood Homestead, 18 Beaver Dam Road, Vinalhaven, ME 04863 or to Island Community Medical Services, P.O. Box 812, Vinalhaven, ME 04863.
